Virginia Snakeroot

Aristolochia Serpentaria

In folk medicine snakeroot has been cheifly used to treat fever. Modern herbalists prescribe snakeroot as an aphrodisiac, to prevent convulsions, and to promote menstruation. None of these uses has been scientifically validated. Snakeroot contains an acid that may cause genetic mutations. Some countries forbid the plant's sale.
