Male Fern

Dryopteris Filix-Mas

To get rid of tapworm, herbalists perscribe a tea of the rhizome. The rhizome contains a substance called oleoresin that paralyzes the worm and causes it to release its grip on the intestines. Before taking oleoresin of male fern as a taeniafuge (tapeworm expeller), a person is placed on a fat-free diet for two to three days. After the dose is administered, a sailine (salty) laxative is given to expel the worm from the body.
