Crataegus Monogyna

Since the 19th century hawthorn leaves and fruits have been prescribed in herbals as a cardiac depressant (an agent that slows heartbeat in an enlarged or overactive heart) and has a hypotensive (an agent that diminishes blood pressure). Pharmacologists find evidence that these uses are probably valid, although they have not been positively proved effective. The hard wood of hawthorn has been used to make a variety of walking sticks and boxes.
